Hazel May Slocum (Hulton), 92, of Warwick, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021, at Halcyon West Bay in Warwick, RI. She was the daughter of the late John S. Hulton and the late Marion H. Hulton. She was married to the late George E. Slocum for 61 years prior to his passing in 2009.

She was born and raised in Cranston and held deep roots there, but Warwick was where she spent most of her adult life. She was in love with all the community had to offer and chose to raise her family there.

In her professional life, Hazel was a local real estate industry leader and a proud member of The National Association of Realtors, The Rhode Island Association of Realtors and The Kent Washington Association of Realtors. Having been the catalyst to, and cornerstone of, Slocum Realty based in Warwick she was very highly respected by both her office family, her colleagues throughout Rhode Island, and those she came to know so well across the country through her leadership efforts. When people asked what Hazel stood for the answer was always simple, ethics, fairness and commitment for everyone she and Slocum Realty had the privilege of helping and working with. To Hazel, both personally and professionally, it always came down to one simple premise: right or wrong, there was no gray, no flirting with the truth, you did the right thing every time, and she would never hesitate to let anyone know it is as simple as that. Tough, fair, committed, loving, and unwavering. Many would tell you that even those tough meetings usually ended with a hug and assurance that "everything was going to be alright".

Hazel loved so many things in life including traveling to the Caribbean, boating on the bay, digging little necks between the islands, gardening, and swimming. However, at the end of the day there was never anything more important than her family. Hazel was so incredibly proud of her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She flourished with each of their accomplishments, activities, and experiences. The pride and love just beamed from her eyes as she gazed at each and every one of them.

Hazel leaves her sons, Robert G. Slocum and his wife Donna, and Philip C. Slocum and his wife Lauren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Diane E. Wallace, the wife of Walter Wallace.

All her children held incredibly special and critical rolls in her life. In addition, she would gleefully tell you she was blessed with ten amazing and wonderful grandchildren Shani, Greg, Randi, James, John, Katie, Christopher, Nick, Alicia, and Sean. She prays they always know what a special place they all have had in her heart, and the joy they provided in her life. And finally, her love and pride just kept growing when they blessed her with fifteen great grandchildren, and two more on the way. She was quick to tell everyone about all of them with the most loving smile on her face. In addition, there were several people in her life that she thought of as "family/sons/daughters," and whom she loved dearly. Two very special people that she loved "as her own," but were just lacking the last name Slocum, were James Grady and Bob DeGregorio. You both know the joy, happiness, pride, and laughter you brought to her life. She was so grateful for every moment. She loved you so much, and genuinely thought of you "as her own".

Hazel's Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 14, at THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Ave Warwick, RI 02886 (exit 12A off I-95). Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family from 9:30-11:30AM followed by a brief service and burial at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Hazel's memory can be made to Saint Elizabeth Community, 2364 Post Rd. Suite 100, Warwick, RI 02886 or another important non-profit near and dear to your heart and are sincerely appreciated.
