Melvin E. Bilezerian, 78, of North Smithfield, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2018, after a brief illness. Born in Worcester, MA and raised in Providence, Mel was the husband of the late A. Gail (Bartigian) Bilezerian and the son of the late Seth E. and Sarah (Najarian) Bilezerian.

Mel dedicated his life to his family, his church and the greater community. A graduate of Hope High School and the Wentworth Institute of Technology, he served in the Air National Guard and worked in various sales capacities at Amperex Electronics, Fairchild Semiconductor and National Semiconductor. Mel also served as a Deacon and former board member of the Armenian Evangelical Church. An avid gardener, Mel was a member of the University of Rhode Island Master Gardeners Association and acted as the Project Coordinator for the "Garden of Heroes" Memorial located on the southwest lawn of the State House. He also volunteered as a member of the Town of North Smithfield Personnel Board and as an advisory member of the City of Providence Capital Center Commission.

Mel always had a twinkle in his eye. He greeted both friends and strangers with charm and charisma, finding great pleasure in talking about whatever topic was at hand. He loved to cook, and his legendary soujuk will be greatly missed amongst the Armenian community. Above everything else, Mel took pride in his immediate and extended family and found tremendous joy in his grandchildren.

Mel is survived by his brother, Gary, of Cranston; his son Craig, of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Karyn, of Wrentham, MA; and his grandsons Kyle and Karson. Mel will be greatly missed by many other dear relatives and loving friends.

Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Funeral and burial will be private.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Armenian Evangelical Church, Deacon Bart and Sally Bartigian Education Fund, 180 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920 or to the Armenia Tree Project, USA, 400 West Cummings Park, Suite 3900, Woburn, MA 01801.

Arrangements entrusted to the URQUHART-MURPHY Funeral Home.
