Capt. Ret. RISP, Leo H. Lemoi, 86, died Friday, December 1, 2017 at RI Hospital.  He was the loving husband of Maureen Bailey.  Born in West Warwick to the late Leo R. & Orise M. (Boucher) Lemoi. 

Leo grew up at the Adult Correctional Institute as his father was the assistant warden.  He graduated in 1948 from LaSalle Academy and went on to join the U.S. Navy for four years. 

In 1956, Leo joined the RI State Police and served until 1979.  He attended the FBI Academy and was the first State Trooper to start the SWAT team.  Upon retirement, he joined his brother-in-law, the late Paul Bailey to restart Paul Bailey Warwick Ford.  He loved hosting the State Police Retirees Picnic, traveling, and spending time at the "pond."  

In addition to his wife Maureen, he leaves his children: Michael Lemoi (Joni) of FL, Karen Bois of FL, Steven Lemoi (Robin) of Narragansett, Stephanie Briggs (Jack) of Wakefield, six grandchildren: Susan Gardner, Jamie Lemoi, Kerrie Robinson, Jay Lemoi, Alicia Bailey Henry, Paul Bailey Sylvander, and five great-grandchildren.  He was the loving brother of Jeannette Tellier (Jean Tellier, Ret. Capt. WWPD), Richard Lemoi, Ret. Lt. RISP, (Shiela) of FL, Robert Lemoi Ret. Capt. EGPD (Nancy) of Coventry, Lawrence Lemoi (Kim) of South Kingstown, & his brother-in-law Keith Bailey & his wife Debra of North Kingstown.  He was the brother of the late Arthur Lemoi & Louise Gray.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, his best gal "Inky", and his Retired RI State Police Family. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 8, 2017 at 11:00 am in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, Wickford.  Burial with full Military Honors will follow in the Bailey Family Cemetery, North Kingstown.  Relatives & friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 pm in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.  Kindly omit flowers. 

Gifts in his memory to the Rhode Island State Police Museum, 311 Danielson Pike, North Scituate, RI 02857 or the North Kingstown Food Pantry, 445 School St., North Kingstown, RI 02852 will be appreciated.
