John J. Connors, Jr., 75, of Spartanburg, SC, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

John is survived by his wife Kathy Geraets Connors of Spartanburg; son, Michael Connors and daughter-in-law, Anne of San Francisco, CA; and his daughter, Jennifer of Brooklyn, NY.  John is also survived by his twin sister, Sally Connors of Warwick, RI.  He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Connors of Cranston, and his sister, Nancy Connors of New York, NY.

John was born on April 7, 1942 in Fitchburg, MA.  While serving in the U.S. Army he met and married Kathy in Fairbanks, AK in 1964.  After moving back to Rhode Island, he graduated from Rhode Island College with a degree in Chemistry and taught at Cranston West.  John began working for AMICA Mutual Insurance Company in 1972 and worked there for over thirty years earning many additional advanced certificates.  He retired in 2004 as a Senior Vice President.

John was an outgoing man with many interests.  He loved singing in church or with his barbershop quartet, the Chord Street Boys, golfing, baking pies, and was quite a prolific painter.  He was an active and dedicated member of both the Rhode Island and Spartanburg West Rotary Clubs, serving as chapter president in both locations.  He often volunteered, and one of his favorite activities was reading to the kindergarten and first grade classes at the Arcadia Elementary School.  In Rhode Island, John read for INSIGHT Radio for many years and assisted in organizing Golf Tournaments for the RI Alzheimer's Association.

He was a devoted member of the Jesus Our Risen Savior Catholic Church, serving as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, President of the Parish Council and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He also served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and President of the Parish Council at St. Francis de Sales in North Kingstown, RI for many years prior to their move to South Carolina.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. Catherine Siena Church, 3252 Post Road, Warwick.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 9 AM at St. Catherine Siena Church.  Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate John's life.
