Joy Diana Ames, of Laurelmead, Providence, RI passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. She was the daughter of Gerald George Davidson and Anna (Porter) Davidson, and beloved wife of the late Francis Patrick Ames. She was born on March 18, 1929 in Geneva, Switzerland. Her son, Ronald, is deceased.

She spent much of her time in her great uncle's (Frank Lloyd Wright) architectural fellowship, Taliesin, in Wisconsin. She graduated from Hollywood High School and the University of California at Los Angeles. She was a successful business woman and an accomplished musician. She played cello and was first chair in the American Symphony under the baton of Leopold Stokowski, as well as performing in many chamber music groups. She was a Ruby Master of the American Contract Bridge League.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Dorianne and David Tanaka, two nephews, Mitchell and Benjamin, and many dear friends, as well as her beloved pet, Sheffield.

Joy was always an advocate for animal rights, and has been involved in many causes devoted to bettering their lives. Any gifts may be made to Best Friends Animal Society, PO Box 567, Kanab, UT 84741, RISPCA, 186 Amaral St., Riverside, RI 02915, or Laurelmead Employees Education Fund, 355 Blackstone Blvd., Providence, RI 02906.

Her burial will be private.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to THE URQUART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick.
