Robert "Bob" S. Munroe, Sr., 87, of Warwick, died peacefully on Saturday, September 23, 2017 surrounded by his family and in the care of the amazing nurses and staff at the West View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Warwick. He was the beloved husband of Josephine Ann (Fox) Munroe. They were married in St. Matthew Church in Cranston on January 24, 1953.

Born in Jamaica Plain Hospital in Boston on February 13, 1930, Bob was a son of the late George S. and Alison (Rutherford) Munroe.

Robert retired as a Senior Chief in the US Navy after 22 years of service, retiring in February, 1970 at NAS Quonset Point. During his naval career he served aboard the USS Essex, USS Wasp, USS Saipan and the USS Sicily as a member of the Anti-Submarine Squadrons VS39 and VS32. After his Navy service, Bob was employed as an Estimating Engineer for power plant piping systems until retiring.

Bob was a lifetime Boston Red Sox fan. He enjoyed painting and collecting military miniature models and figures and also enjoyed history, painting, drawing, reading, baseball, airplanes and family. Bob was also a CCD Teacher at St. Catherine of Siena Church for over 30 years.

Beloved by his family, Bob was a strong and graceful man with a quick wit and the amazing ability to capture your interest with a story. He loved Maine and loved to eat at Richard's Pub, Tavern on Main and the Crow's Nest.

In addition to his beloved wife, Bob is survived by his loving children: Robert S. Munroe, Jr. and his wife Ana of North Kingstown and Therese Munroe Curran and her husband Paul of North Scituate; his siblings: Alan Munroe of Gloucester, MA and Alison Van Stry of Nashua, NH; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 9:00 AM from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Ave., Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 3252 Post Road, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday from 5 PM - 8 PM in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place in RI Veteran Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
