Shirley A. Howard, 81, of Warwick, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Clayton S. Howard. Born in Cranston, Shirley was a daughter of the late Arthur S. and Charlotte F. (Sealey) Doodson.

In addition to her beloved husband, Shirley is survived by her loving children: Sherrie L. LaPlante (Gregory) of Warwick, Bonnie L. Auclair (James) of Warwick and Laurie B. Roberts (Steven) of Port St. Lucie, FL; five cherished grandchildren: Nicole, Joseph, Andrea, Steve and Jessica; and two great-grandsons: Joseph and Lucas.

She was the sister of the late Thomas A. Doodson, Melvin Doodson and Edna Gartman.

Shirley was employed as a Secretary for the Warwick School Department for thirty-five years. She was also the Minister of Music at Hillsgrove United Methodist Church in Warwick. She was an accomplished pianist and organist. Shirley also served as an organist for the Emblem Club.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 11 AM in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 4 PM - 8 PM. Burial will take place in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery in North Kingstown.
