Gertrude "Betty" E. (Mills) Royal, 96, of Coventry died Friday, July 28, 2017 at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Lyman "Bill" Royal. Born in Warwick, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Gertrude (Lawrence) Mills.
Betty was employed as a Library Aide in the Warwick and Coventry Library Systems and taught English as a second language. During WWII, Betty served as a Staff Sergeant in the Women's Army Air Corps.
Betty is survived by her loving son: Richard A. Royal and his wife Debra of Coventry; her daughter-in-law: Diane Royal of Warwick; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
She was the beloved mother of the late James I. Royal and Catherine A. Martin and sister of the late Irving B. Mills.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 10 AM in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Ave., Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5 PM - 7 PM. Burial with full military honors will take place in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery.
