Helen Slazyk was a beautiful lady who graced the life of her family for almost 95 years. She was an Altar and Rosary Society member and a parishioner of St. Bernadette's Church, Hamburg, NY, for fifty-two years. Helen and her late husband, Rudy Slazyk, were cherished partners during fifty years of marriage, cooperating in establishing a family business, Rudy Slazyk Plumbing & Heating, and volunteering as the president couple of an exchange student group, The Foundation for International Cooperation (FIC), Helen studied Spanish and enjoyed international travel with her husband.

Helen's love of flowers included fifty years of membership in the Hamburg Garden Club, and she enjoyed being a volunteer reader for children for ten years at the Armor Road Elementary School. She also volunteered at HopeVale, a youth and family agency. Helen resided in Hamburg until 2010, when she moved to East Greenwich, RI, to be with her daughter, Patricia Lake, and the family of her granddaughter, Jennifer Elizabeth (Michael) Labriola.

Helen is survived by three daughters, Judith (Dr. Robert) Johnson of Arizona, Patricia (Daniel) Lake of RI, and Melanie (Gregory) Imhoff of Maryland. Helen and Rudy's legacy of love for future generations include eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Helen has one surviving sister, Dorothy (Raymond) Rusek, and a sister-in-law, Shirley (the late Edward) Serwacki.

Helen passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich. Born in Buffalo, New York, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Bernice (Chludziski) Serwacki.

Calling hours from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2017 are available at the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home, 21 Pierce Avenue, Hamburg, NY 14075. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10 AM in St. Bernadette's Church, 5930 South Abbott Road, Orchard Park, NY 14127. Burial will take place in Hillcrest Cemetery.
