Bernice M. (Walmsley) Young, 93, of Exeter, RI passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.  She was the wife of the late Edward Mason Young.  She was born in Richmond, RI to the late Jere F. and Mary E. (Robinson) Walmsley.  

She attended the University of Rhode Island and was a supervisor for the State of Rhode Island as a nutritionist.  She also was a Director of Food Services for the Narragansett Indian Tribe and a homemaker.  She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed being with her family.  Mrs. Young was a Wampanoag Indian who served on two Tribal Councils and also enjoyed traveling and playing the piano. 

She is survived by her daughters Diana LaFrance and her husband Robert of Warwick and Lorraine Bailey and her husband Stanley of Exeter, 22 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was the mother of the late Joyce (Young) McLeod, Merrill Young, Ronald Young, Rodney Young, and Wayne Young.  She was the sister of the late Viola Tabor, Jerry Walmsley, William Edward Walmsley, Robert Walmsley, and Richard Walmsley. 

Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 11:00 am in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main St., North Kingstown.  Burial will follow in New Fernwood Cemetery.  Relatives & friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4:00 -7:00 pm.
