Elizabeth (Bess) Smith Wilson passed away peacefully in her home, North Kingstown, RI, on September 8, 2016 at the age of 73 surrounded by family. She courageously fought ovarian cancer for over 6 years.  

Bess was born on April 12, 1943, in Jamaica, NY, to Gilbert and Annie Smith.  She is survived by her loving husband, Paul Wilson; her daughter Sara (Adam) Lawson Viener (Addison, Riley & Jolie); her four step-sons Jim (Virginia), Rich, Chris (Jen), Craig (Kristen), 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and her sister Janet (William) Walker and their children Gilbert, Helen, and Joanna.

Bess graduated from the University of Miami with a BA.  In her adult life, she went on to earn 2 Master's degrees including one in Special Education.  She taught elementary school in the East Greenwich, RI public school system for over 20 years.  She also spent a year abroad as a part of the Fulbright Exchange program living in England.

Bess most enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  She was an active congregant at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wickford, RI, where she participated with the Altar Guild and Community Garden.  She cherished her involvement with several groups including her book club, walking group, and EFM classes.  She especially enjoyed traveling to the family cabin in Northern Wisconsin.  

She was a beloved grandmother and devoted friend to many.  

Calling hours will take place on Friday, September 23rd from 2:00 - 8:00pm at The Cranston-Murphy Funeral Home of Wickford (140 West Main Street, North Kingstown, RI 02852).

Her memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 24th at 10:30am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church (55 Main Street, Wickford, RI 02852). Reception will follow for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bess's memory are welcomed at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
