After a protracted battle with cancer, Douglas A. Scott, 65, passed away on August 12, 2016 with his family by his side. He died in the city he loved, Houston, TX, at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is survived by his husband, Donald Robinson, his sister, Tamara Sharp and her husband Bill; his brother, Thomas Scott and his wife, Patricia; nieces Tory Groves and her husband Derek, and Stacey Scott;- nephew Thomas Scott, Jr., grand-niece, Grace Groves;and grand-nephew Michael Groves. Also surviving are uncle, Joseph Beckwith, and cousins, Jim Beckwith, Joe Beckwith, Laurie Theroux, Dean Scott, Terry Scott, Cathy MacIver, and Debbie Karl.

Doug was born on April 26, 1951, in Wakefield, RI, to father Francis "Red" Scott and mother Shirley Adams Scott. He was a 1969 graduate of North Kingstown High School. After graduation he worked at Ladd School and would invariably bring one of his clients home for Christmas. He was also manager of Sybilla and the Slim Buckle Band.

After leaving RI in the late 70's he settled in Houston, TX. He met his partner, Donald, shortly after moving there.-They were together for 35 years. Doug began working at "Carter & Cooley Company Delicatessen" 25 years ago and shortly after became a partner in the business. He loved to cook and developed many of the recipes. He particularly delighted in creating new sandwiches and soups that the customers loved.

Doug was a much-loved figure in the Montrose community of Houston and he was active in many fundraisers. He was also a well known and well respected Gay Rights activist in Houston, and recently received a posthumous award for his years of service. He devoted many hours on the Houston contribution to the national AIDS Quilt. Doug never met an individual he did not consider a potential friend, and always went out of his way to greet strangers and welcome them to the community.

We always looked forward to both Donald and Doug coming home to RI for vacation. He loved his hometown of Wickford, and especially treasured his family, both immediate and extended. When here, he could never get his fill of seafood, particularly steamers. It would be a week of crazy fun, and the silence was deafening when they left. Doug had a joyful life and brought joy to all who knew him.

In addition to family, Doug leaves behind many, many friends, and his two rescue-pups, Katie and Denton. He will be missed.

A Remembrance will be held at Duffy's Tavern, 235 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown, RI, 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday,September 15th. There will also be a Celebration of Life in Houston in the Fall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX, 77210.

Arrangements by THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD.
