Antoinette M. (Latowski) Hicks, 91, died peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Bristol Veterans Home.  She was the wife of the late Irving P. Hicks.  Born in Cranston, she was the daughter of the late Stephen Latowski and Germaine (Blanchet) Latowski. 

During WWII, Antoinette proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, one of the first five women to join the Corps in Rhode Island, earning the rank of sergeant. Mrs. Hicks later worked as a Secretary at the University of Rhode Island for many years until her retirement.

She loved traveling the world, and visited Cuba before Castro, Puerto Rico in the 1960s, and the Soviet Union in the 1980s. She was a talented singer with an operatic voice, and especially loved big band. She spent some time in NYC singing in TV commercials, and always maintained her interest in music, singing with the Westerly Choir in later years. Antoinette loved to write about her life and family, and is a published author of the novel, "Trilogy of Love." She was also a gifted athlete, playing tennis and golf, and, having acquired a love of baseball from her dad, Steve Latowski who played for the Pawtucket Red Socks when she was a girl, she remained an avid Red Socks fan all of her life.

Antoinette leaves her loving daughter, Elizabeth A. Hicks of New London, CT.  She was the sister of the late Robert Latowski and late Lillian Latowski Taillon.  She also leaves a niece, Michele TaillonTaylor of Havertown, PA, and a nephew, Victor Taillon of Bel Air, MD. 

A Graveside Service with full Military Honors will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 12:00 pm at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter.  Relatives and friends are invited and asked to meet at the administration building parking lot at 11:45 am.  Calling Hours are respectfully omitted.  In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to the Rhode Island Veterans Home, 480 Metacom Avenue, Bristol, RI 02809 or to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd. # 3004, Warwick, RI 02886 will be appreciated. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD.
