Kenneth R. Newcomb, 86, passed away at home on Sunday, July 17, 2016.  He was the beloved husband of Erika Newcomb. Born in Trinidad, Colorado, he was the son of the late David P. Newcomb and Clara (McInturff) Newcomb.  He had resided in Warwick since 1968.

Mr. Newcomb was a retired Civil Engineer Corps officer serving in the Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He served eight years as a Navy Draftsman, becoming a Chief Petty Officer just prior to gaining his commission as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer at Officer Candidate School, Newport, RI.  From OCS, he proceeded to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY where he obtained his Civil Engineering Degree. He retired from the Navy in 1968 as a Lieutenant. He was a member of the Military Officer's Association; the Fleet Reserve Association; and William Shields Jr. Post 43 of the American Legion.

Mr. Newcomb was formerly registered as a Professional Engineer in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. His professional memberships had included The American Society of Civil Engineers, the society of American Military Engineers and the Providence Engineering Society.

He was a member of Raquetime Tennis Club, a former member of Woodland Greens and Seaview golf clubs as well as the Cranston Country Club golf club.

Since 1974, Mr. Newcomb operated Ken-Ray Stamps which provided stamps through the mail for stamp collectors. He was a member of the American Philatelic Society and former member of the National Stamp Dealer's Association.

Besides his wife, he leaves his son, Kevin R. Newcomb of Schenectady, NY.  Mr. Newcomb was predeceased by his son, David B. Newcomb. He also leaves his brother David K. Newcomb of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Betty Owens of Colorado and Martha Donges of Ohio.  He is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A private burial was held at Highland Memorial Park, Johnston, RI on July 20, 2016.  Arrangements by THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME.
