80, of Cranston passed away on June 4, 2016 at Kent Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of Carolina C. (Raspallo) Read. They were married on October 20, 1962. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Rigney) Read. 
   
Mr. Read was a Captain with the Providence Fire Department, retiring after 30  years of service.  He also served in The United States Army. He was a graduate of LaSalle Academy, class of 1954 and received his Associate Degree from Providence College.  Mr. Read was active in charity work of the Catholic Church, a volunteer at Amos House and a member of the Firefighters Union.
   
He was the loving father of Karen E. Robinson and her husband James and Donna E. Read, all of Cranston.  Cherished grandfather of Joshua Read Robinson.  Caring brother of Frederick Read of West Greenwich and the late Henry Read, Edward Read, and Mary Beaulieu.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 12 NOON in Immaculate Conception Church, Garden Hills Drive, Cranston.  Burial, with military honors, in St. Ann Cemetery.  Relatives and friends are invited.  Calling Hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7 pm in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95).
   
In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to Amos House, 460 Pine St., Providence, RI 02907, Church of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 791 Potters Ave., Providence, RI 02907 or Carl G. Lauro Elementary School, 99 Kenyon St., Providence, RI 02903 would be appreciated.
